Reading Is Great For Business
Reading Is Great For Business
What do painters, writers, chefs, farmers, architects, and financial advisors all have in common? Believe it or not, the answer to what these different kinds of people have in common is their need to learn about their industries through books. To become an expert at anything you must first learn by reading about those who have gone before you and became the best in their industry. If you want to be the best novelist, then study the habits, preferences, and skills of the best novelists in history. If you want to create the 8th wonder of the world, then study what makes the wonders of the world so special. There is a reason adults always encourage children to spend more time reading and less time watching television. Reading an educational or mind-expanding book is never a waste of time, which is saying a lot in our hyper-busy world where there are so many things screaming for our time.
Here at Huntington, we strongly encourage each other to read books. We encourage reading of all literature but especially books that specifically relate to our industry: marketing, entrepreneurship, small business, management, advertising, sales, community involvement, motivation, time management, and the list goes on and on and on. Encouraging each other to read books “in our industry” is a wide demographic because we are a billboard advertising company, but we so much more. We are entrepreneurs, we are a small business and we work with small businesses, we are involved in our communities, we are marketers and advertisers, we work hard to prioritize our time for the best benefit of our clients. We are so much more than simply an advertising company partly because we read books. Reading books is good for our business and great for our clients. Reading books helps us understand more about people and how to relate to them, and guess what? Reading even helps us become better at finding the perfect marketing and advertising plan for your business! Books really are good for business.
None of us are ever just bakers, marketers, managers or whatever might be your job title. We are champions of our industry and should treat ourselves as such. Become a champion of your industry by expanding your mind and enhancing your creativity through reading. Remember that reading is never a waste of your time because it is an investment in your future.
“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.”
– Charlie Jones
